PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Master of Arts in Language and Literature (MA LL) is designed to provide training in language and literature as intersecting fields of study. It equips its students with theoretical and pedagogic competencies in these areas of knowledge, and provides a forum for critical discussions and studies on linguistic and literary issues. It also engages its students in significant research projects on various topics related language, literature and wider field of cultural studies.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The Master of Arts in Language and Literature (MALL) Program seeks to address the need in the CAR and other neighboring regions for quality education in language and literature in all levels of the educational system.

The MALL program aims to provide the following:

  • A firm grounding in theories of language and literature studies
  • Training in the application of current methods, techniques, and technologies in language and literature instruction
  • Training in various types of research
  • A forum for discussion of relevant issues in language and literature, especially in the Philippine context

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

The student must earn six units of same-language course in a foreign language other than English, or in a Philippine language other than Filipino, Tagalog, and the student’s first language.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission, applicants must

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in language/literature or related specializations; or experience in teaching language/literature
  • Have a general weighted average (GWA) of 2.0 or higher in their bachelor’s program. (Applicants who fail to meet this requirement but have adequate experience in teaching language or literature may be considered for admission)
  • Pass the MALL admission test and interview

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Official Transcript of Records (OTR) of undergraduate and graduate work, original and one (1) photocopy
  • For married women, two (2) photocopies of their Marriage Contract
  • Birth Certificate (2 copies)
  • Application and testing fee

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The College of Arts and Communication, UP Baguio, has also been designated as a delivering institution of the CHED Faculty Development Program, which offers a limited number of scholarship grants.
